“Only a few more hours.” Devon pressed his nose to my ear and inhaled. “Remind me why we didn’t take the day off to celebrate?”

“You act like it’s been a form of torture.” I giggled and ducked beneath his arm, relishing the feel of his body pressed against mine.

We were tucked away in what had become our space, the projector room that hardly ever saw the light of day. The technology was so ancient not even the librarian used this room, and it was the safest spot we could find to steal a few minutes for ourselves. So many of our special moments had happened here, and I’d come to look forward to the unexpected moments he dropped in on me in the library.

“I’ve waited a lifetime for you to come along. Every moment you’ve been in my life, every moment I haven't been able to touch you has been a form of torture.”

I swooned at his words. “The bell is going to ring.”

A frustrated growl spilled past his lips before he tightened his grip on me and pressed his lips to mine in a quick kiss.

“Go on, I’ll meet you in there.” He tapped the curve of my ass and made my system hum with unrequited lust.

I left him in the library and stifled my chuckle when Devon stepped into class a few minutes behind me. He sat at his desk, something I now knew he did to hide the thick hard-on tenting his pants. The fact that this beautiful, intelligent, accomplished man wanted me was something I’d never expected. I felt as though I’d won the lotto, and I only hoped I could be the woman he thought I was. I was as inexperienced as they came. A slow pit of dread had begun to form in my stomach over the last few nights, thinking I could prove to be a disappointment to him.

“Morning, everyone.” Devon cleared his throat and tented his fingers together, elbows on his desk. “It’s come to my attention that we’ve got a birthday today.”

I turned my head down, feeling heat flame up my cheeks.

“Ms. Kingston, happy eighteenth.”

Hoots and hollers echoed from around the room, along with some clapping, minus one loud-mouthed loser. Shawn hadn’t returned to school thankfully. A few students had heard he was now enrolled at the alternative school, which was exactly where I thought he belonged.

“Thank you.” I waved at the rest of the class before nailing him with my eyes.

Embarrassment heated my blood, I wanted to get him back for drawing attention to me. He knew I hated that.

Devon’s eyebrows arched as his eyes danced with mischievous enjoyment.

I pursed my lips, thinking I knew exactly how to get the best of him. I crossed my legs and made sure the skirt I wore rode up my thighs. His eyes flicked down instantly, and he cleared his throat again before averting his eyes.

“Everyone on page fifty-five, please.”

I grinned when I heard the restraint in his voice.

“Ms. Kingston, why don’t you do us the honor of reading the first paragraph?”

I inwardly groaned before starting to read.
